How easy it is to straighten a warped stretcher frame
In the case of slight tension, it is sometimes sufficient to apply diagonal pressure to the stretcher frame in the opposite direction to restore the balance of forces. To do this, pull carefully with one hand and press with the other until the stretcher frame and canvas lie flat again. If this does not help, however, there is more serious tension that cannot be cured without technical aids. To begin with, you can safely ignore supposed aids such as fittings, angles, triangles, strips, tensioning wires and anything else that seems to be on offer. None of this will ultimately solve the problem. The solution is much simpler and inconspicuous, but absolutely effective. Two small wedges attached to the right corners of the stretcher frame and the picture is perfectly levelled. Please note that wedges from the DIY store are not suitable as they do not have the required dimensions.
